So it’s been awhile since I have posted so here goes…

Last weekend was Renewed Life for Greyhound’s Shades of Grey Gathering. You can check out more photos on Flickr. It is our annual gathering and fund raiser. It turned out to be a greyt day!

I finished my Ecological Literacy and Sustainability class with an A. Plus we are still working on our group project outside of class, which is very exciting. I had a week off of school before starting spring session. I’m taking Ethics. It’s accelerated because it is a spring class, just six weeks but so far it’s a great class and I’m really enjoying it..

GRecyclers Media Coverage April 14, 2008

Well I’ve been busy with class and to prove it, here is an article that ran in the Advance and an interview with Fox 17 click here. There will be another article about our recycling efforts in the Grand Rapids Press next week. Also, we have been invited to give our presentation of our project and results at a city commissioners meeting next week Wednesday. Currently, I’m working on writing my 15 page paper concluding my experience in the class and it is 50% of my grade!!!! It’s due Thursday so I will be feverishly working on my paper until then.

Signs of spring! April 4, 2008

Tonight Neeko and I went for a walk in Hager Park. We came across these plants poking though the leaves. I’m so excited for spring! I posted a few more pictures from our walk on the right.

The Green Well, Recycling and Roller Derby March 30, 2008

Filed under: My Thoughts — andreamarz @ 7:55 pm

Friday night Dave and I went to The Green Well for dinner and drinks. It was excellent as always. Then Dave dropped me off at home and he went to Kelly’s to watch the MSU game. I went to bed as I had to get up early to take Chase to the vet for his annual check up. All is well with Chase, although I think he needs to go in for a teeth cleaning soon. After Chase’s vet appointment, I met up with my group from class to hand out more recycling bins. There were four of us and we were able to sign up 26 houses in just over two hours! We would have kept going but we ran out of bins. Then Dave and I were looking for something different to do and found out there was a Roller Derby game going on. So we high tailed it to the Rivertown Sports to watch the GR Roller Girls take on the Kalamazoo Kamikazes. It was really fun! It is a BOYB event so next time we thought it might be fun to get a group together and make a night of it.

Today I just slept in, went grocery shopping and made a few new vegan recipes. I plan to put some of my favorite vegan recipes on my blog soon. Stay tuned!

Tool, DP and Travian Onesies for Tyson March 30, 2008

Last weekend Dave and I made some Tool, Domestic Problems and Travian onesies for Tyson (Jeff and Kari’s little one). I think they turned out pretty good. If you don’t know what Travian is, it’s a good thing. This mean you’re not a geek.

GRecyclers March 17, 2008

Saturday the GRecyclers (our sweet group name), from my Ecological Literacy and Sustainability class, went door to door trying to increase recycling on the “West Side”. The first time we went out I was really apprehensive about going door to door but now I love it. For the most part everyone is very receptive and we have already signed up 35 households for the free program. Not bad for group of 8 people going out three times.

Sunday Dave and I had a board meeting for Renewed Life for Greyhounds and then went to Dave’s parents house to celebrate his mom’s birthday.

My first post March 15, 2008

Filed under: My Thoughts — andreamarz @ 1:21 am

So this is my first post on my first personal blog. Super exciting! Thank you Sarah G for encouraging me to start one. I hope I will keep it up.

Tomorrow I’m going door to door with my group from class promoting the city of Grand Rapids free recycling program to residents on the west side to help increase recycling rates in that area. The project is for my Ecological Literacy and Sustainability class. I will post pictures and let you know how it goes.

Until tomorrow…
